Second Exit/Entrance Project

Greenwood Station

Project overview

Greenwood Station will be getting a new second exit/entrance to improve customer safety and convenience. As part of its commitment to modernization, TTC developed a new process designed by a third party Expert Panel of planners and architects to involve local communities in determining second exit locations. The process includes establishing a local working group to submit and assess potential locations using an evaluation framework that was developed by a panel of third-party experts. The framework is based on the following five criteria:

  • Safety
  • Local community impact – Second Exit (permanent)
  • Local community impact – Construction Period
  • Customer experience
  • Cost

TTC Engineering will provide the technical information necessary for the local working group to rank their location options. The goal of the process is for the LWG to arrive at a recommendation that is supported by the local community. The process has proven successful at Chester Station and Donlands Station.

Project update

  • Project Update

Community volunteers on the Local Working Group (LWG) for Greenwood Station put forward potential sites for TTC to develop functional layouts for a new second exit/entrance building. Local Working Group (LWG) members attended a series of meetings in 2017/2018 to help advise where the second exit/entrance location should be built in the Greenwood Station neighbourhood.

At the final LWG meeting (April 11, 2018) the LWG discussed their top two equally ranked locations (Option C: 1416 Danforth Avenue and Option H: 138/140 Monarch Park Avenue) in detail, including a category by category review as a group. The LWG then voted unanimously that Option C: 1416 Danforth Avenue is their recommended location for a second exit/entrance in the Greenwood Station neighbourhood.

Please note that TTC has not put forward, accepted or approved any of the locations that the LWG put forward for review. At this time, no final decisions have been made.

    Here are the next steps:

At this time, TTC’s project team will be reviewing the LWG’s recommended location in more detail, including with City staff. We will then host a Community Open House for further feedback from the wider community. City Departments such as Planning and Transportation will also provide their feedback. Then, a TTC board report will be reviewed by the Board, and the final decision will be made by the Board.

Once a final location is approved, further design and engineering work will be required and any updates will also be shared with the community. These reviews will take time and we will have an update meeting (date TBD).

TTC wishes to thank both the Local Working Group and all neighbours who attended many meetings and shared their recommendations with the volunteers and the TTC.

    • View the functional analysis for the original 10 second exit/entrance location options presented on January 31, 2018.

Please see below for the scheduled meetings dates and topics for discussion.

Meetings of the LWG were open to the community.

The next meeting will be held (date TBD):

Community Meeting - Greenwood Station – second exit/automatic entrance - date TBD
At the end of the Local Working Group’s evaluation process, their rankings of the locations will be presented to the community at a public meeting (date TBD) for additional review and community input.

The TTC’s professional engineering staff will then report the LWG’s rankings, the wider community’s input and a recommendation on a final location to the TTC Board. The TTC Board will make the final decision.
