Warden Station - Temporary PPUDO Closure
Please note: The Warden Station temporary PPUDO closure has been extended to April 3, 2023.
What we are doing and why:
TTC’s Easier Access Program will make subway stations accessible to everyone. This summer, work will start at Warden Station to create a barrier-free path from street level to subway platform level by 2024. In addition to accessibility, Warden Station is slated to be completely rebuilt, with an entirely new bus terminal featuring plenty of natural light and accessible bus platforms.
Closure extension and scope of work update:
February 13, 2023: The TTC's contractor is working hard to complete the necessary work to re-open the Passenger Pick-up Drop-off (PPUDO) which has been closed since October 2022. This week, the project team made the decision to extend the closure to April 3, 2023. This extension is directly related to unforeseen site conditions. The scope of work has been extended to include realignment of a sanitary sewer line, replacement of a damaged watermain, replacement of a damaged storm drain, and extensive repair to the existing PPUDO roof.
This work is critical to installing an electrical duct bank which will power the elevators which are being installed at Warden Station.
The station improvements will include:
- Two new elevators which will connect customers between the Passenger Pick Up/Drop Off area (PPUDO), concourse level and subway platform at the station, which will be completed by 2024.
- Improved signage and wayfinding throughout the station.
- Constructing a temporary accessible bus terminal which will begin service in 2024 and a new permanent accessible bus terminal, which will be completed in 2026.
Closure of the existing PPUDO will include the following activities:
- Between October 17 and April 3, the PPUDO will be closed for construction demolition and to build new electrical duct banks, which will allow for power upgrades to accommodate the two new elevators. A Temporary PPUDO will be available for customers within the staff parking-lot, north of the existing south commuter-lot. The Warden Avenue entrance/exit will remain open during the closure of the PPUDO area.
- Bus bay 1 (the closest to the PPUDO driveway) will also be closed for public safety to accommodate for excavation at the Station. Buses currently using this Bus bay will be rerouted into the sixth existing Bus bay at Warden Station, closer to the west-side of the bus platform. Signage will be posted throughout the station in advance of this closure.
- Customer Service staff will be on-site at all open entrances/exits to provide details of the closure and assist redirecting customers Monday - Friday.
There is no major impact to traffic expected during the project. There are no weekend station closures or early station closures are expected during the project.
