Warden Station - Easier Access Work

Effective July 7, 2022
Work to make the existing Warden Station subway terminal accessible will begin as early as July, 2022 and continue until Q4 2024. Work to build a permanent accessible bus terminal will continue until Q4 2026.

What we are doing and why:

TTC’s Easier Access Program will make subway stations accessible to everyone. This summer, work will start at Warden Station to create a barrier-free path from street level to subway platform level by 2024. In addition to accessibility, Warden Station is slated to be completely rebuilt, with an entirely new bus terminal featuring plenty of natural light and accessible bus platforms.

The station improvements will include:

  • Two new elevators which will connect customers between the Passenger Pick Up/Drop Off area (PPUDO), concourse level and subway platform at the station, which will be completed by 2024.
  • Improved signage and wayfinding throughout the station.
  • Constructing a temporary accessible bus terminal which will begin service in 2024 and a new permanent accessible bus terminal, which will be completed in 2026.

Construction will begin as early as July 7, 2022 and will include the following activities:

  • In Q4 2022, the PPUDO will be closed for demolition and to build new electrical duct banks, which will allow for power upgrades to accommodate the two new elevators. The Warden Avenue entrance/exit will remain open during the closure of the PPUDO area.
  • Bus bay 1 (the closest to the PPUDO driveway) will also be closed for public safety to accommodate for excavation at the Station. Buses currently using this Bus bay will be rerouted into the sixth existing Bus bay at Warden Station, closer to the west-side of the bus platform. Signage will be posted throughout the station in advance of this closure.
  • Removal for bike racks in the PPUDO. These bike racks will be stored and relocated, as the current area will be modified with new finishes.

There is no major impact to traffic expected during the project. There are no weekend station closures or early station closures are expected during the project.
