St Andrew Station - Concourse Modification

Construction inside St Andrew Station
Effective January 2023 to February 2024

What we are doing and why:
The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is planning for capacity improvements at some of Line 1’s busiest subway stations. TTC began construction in January, 2023 at St Andrew Station to make modifications at the concourse level. This important project will improve passenger flows, fare line clearance times, reduce bottlenecks, speed journey times and improve the overall customer experience at the station.

Overall construction work within the station is expected to be completed by February 2024.

Stage 1 at St Andrew Station’s concourse level includes the following construction on the west side of the station:

  • Decommission and remove existing collector’s booths
  • Add new PRESTO fare gates
  • Improve existing valve room and add a new break room

Stage 1 work was completed in May 2023. Crews on behalf of TTC have begun stage 2 work which includes the same construction activities as phase 1, except the work has now switched to the east side of the station.

What to expect during construction:

  • Protective hoarding will be set up on the concourse level.
  • All construction will be contained within the station.
  • Staging will minimize impacts.
  • For safety, some work and the initial set-up and removal of the access area will occur overnight through the entrance doors at the station.
  • During this time, every effort will be made to ensure your travel through the station is unaffected.

Noise, vibration and dust:

  • Noise, dust and vibration associated with construction can be expected with this work. Efforts will be made to keep levels to a minimum.
