Statement from TTC CEO Rick Leary

Health and safety is paramount to all we do at the TTC.

From the very beginning of the pandemic, we have been committed to minimizing potential exposure to the COVID-19 virus for our employees and our customers.

A key piece of this was the introduction of our mandatory vaccination policy, requiring employees, contractors and students working on TTC property to be fully vaccinated by Oct. 30. We also required these individuals to disclose their current vaccination status to us by tomorrow, Sept. 30.

This morning, the executive of ATU Local 113 and President Carlos Santos, posted a statement to the Local's website encouraging all its members to comply with our status disclosure requirement. This statement reverses the union's previous position which actively discouraged members from sharing their status.

I want to acknowledge Mr. Santos and Local 113's reversal of position. It is my hope that this will set a new tone for ATU Local 113 in working with us as we all seek to keep the TTC safe and put this pandemic behind us.

In light of this, we will be extending the time all TTC employees have to disclose their status to Oct. 6.

We are also reviewing the status of our filing with the Ontario Labour Relations Board.

We will continue to engage in discussions with all five of our union partners to ensure our policy rolls out as smoothly as possible.

I again want to thank the more than 60 percent of employees who have already shared their status with us and look forward to even better disclosure over the next 24 hours.
