Toronto Transit Commission named one of Canada's Top Employers for Young People

The TTC was recognized as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for Young People. The award is given to organizations that offer the nation's best workplaces and programs for young people starting their careers. Winners of the competition are chosen by the editorial team at the Canada's Top Employers project on the basis of the programs and initiatives they offer to attract and retain younger workers.

"The TTC is a forward-thinking organization and we are constantly working to build sustainable transit for the present and future. If we want that work to continue, it's important that we help foster the talented young minds interested in pursuing transit or trades," said TTC CEO Rick Leary. "There are some very specialized skill sets required to keep the TTC moving and I'm so proud that our staff are being recognized for their mentorship, leadership and willingness to teach the next generation of employees."

The TTC was selected for this award in part because of its robust student co-op, internship and apprenticeship program. The organization hires more than 100 students annually and provides them with valuable hands-on work experience and work-place skills related to their fields. The TTC also partners with several secondary and post-secondary institutions and agencies for recruitment and to help provide students studying transit-specific trades with professional co-op and mentorship opportunities.
