TTC and City work on Line 2 this long weekend

This long weekend, Sept.3-5, there will be no subway service on Line 2 between Pape and St George stations as the City of Toronto undertakes concrete structural work on the Prince Edward (Bloor) Viaduct and the TTC performs state of good repair work, which includes signal system, track and station maintenance, and PRESTO installation.

To assist those going to the CNE, an express shuttle bus will run directly between Pape and St George stations, with the westbound shuttle stopping at Bloor-Yonge and Bay stations. The eastbound express shuttle will not stop en route.

Regular shuttle buses will operate between Pape and St George stations frequently throughout the weekend, stopping at all subway stations.  To provide a faster trip for customers, shuttle buses will not service local stops between subway stations, and parking will be restricted on both sides of Bloor St. and Danforth Ave. between the affected stations.

For those attending Buskerfest at Woodbine Park, additional bus service will be added to the 22 Coxwell and 92 Woodbine South routes.

PRESTO is not yet available on all shuttle buses. Customers should carry tokens, tickets or cash in case the vehicle that arrives is not yet PRESTO-equipped.

Wheel-Trans buses will be available for customers requiring accessible transit. Customers can speak with any TTC staff member to request the service.

Extra service to the Canadian National Exhibition continues on a number of surface routes until Sept. 5. Customers going to the CNE can take any of the following routes to Dufferin Gate Loop or Exhibition Loop:

  • 193 Exhibition Rocket express service from Dundas West Station to the Dufferin Gate Loop.
  • 29 Dufferin express or local service south from Dufferin Station to the Dufferin Gate Loop.
  • 511 Bathurst servicesouth from Bathurst Station to the Exhibition Loop.
  • 509 Harbourfront service From Union Station to the Exhibition Loop.
  • 514 Cherry service From King or St Andrew stations to Dufferin Gate Loop

Customers coming from the east end of the city can also take the 506 Carlton streetcar or bus from Main Street Station to College Station and go south to Union Station, where the 509 Harbourfront will take them directly to Exhibition Loop inside the CNE. GO Transit also offers service from Danforth GO Station at Main Street direct to the CNE.

The 510 Spadina streetcar will terminate at Spadina and Queens Quay this weekend.

TTC Ambassadors and supervisory staff will be available at Union, Dufferin and Bathurst stations to help assist customers as they travel throughout the city this long weekend.

Maintaining subway infrastructure in a state-of-good-repair is critical to ensuring a safe, reliable transit system. While the TTC does much of its maintenance work on the subway at the conclusion of service each night, it will continue to require weekend closures to complete improvements to infrastructure and signals, such as automatic train control. One weekend of work during a subway closure equals about five weeks of nightly work. The TTC appreciates the public's patience and understanding.

Regular service resumes Tues., Sept. 6 at 6 a.m.

The next three scheduled subway closures are:

  • Line 1 Yonge-University: Wilson to Downsview - Sept. 10-11
  • Line 1: St Clair West to Downsview - Sept. 17-18
  • Line 1: Bloor-Yonge to Osgoode - Sept. 24-25
