Fifth new TTC streetcar enters service

The Toronto Transit Commission’s fifth new low-floor streetcar, car number 4406 entered regular service on April 1, on the 509 Harbourfront route while the 510 Spadina route uses buses during construction at the intersection of College and Spadina.

The new streetcar is equipped with PRESTO machines to allow customers to pay their fare.

The PRESTO devices include readers at each of the doors and two fare vending and transfer machines. Customers with PRESTO cards tap as they board and then tap again at the fare/transfer machine to receive proof-of-payment. The machines also allow customers without a Metropass or smartcard to purchase a single-ride ticket using coins or tokens.
