TTC and Arts for Children and Youth to sign new partnership agreement
Toronto Transit Commission Chair Maria Augimeri and Arts for Children and Youth (AFCY) Executive and Artistic Director Julie Frost will sign a new three-year partnership agreement on Monday morning at Broadview Station. The agreement marks an innovative alliance that allows marginalized youth participating in AFCY’s Youth X Press community arts program, to create original public murals on used and discarded TTC advertisement panels. Through a partnership with Pattison Media, the murals, in their original painted forms, are mounted in subway tunnels and on the sides of busses and streetcars to circulate Toronto to inspire and inform TTC users and the general public, Murals depict positive social messages that are intended to promote social change and give a voice to marginalized youth populations.
The event will include facilitators and youth who have participated in Arts for Children and Youth programs including Youth X Press, and a representative from Pattison Media, along with examples of Youth X Press murals produced by children and youth from TDSB Schools including Metro Toronto School for the Deaf, Lord Dufferin Middle School and SEED Alternative School, and from Access Alliance a Scarborough community centre.
