Statement by the TTC on arrest of subway stabbing suspect

The Toronto Transit Commission would like to thank the Toronto Police Service for their swift arrest today of the man wanted for allegedly stabbing a TTC customer on Wednesday evening aboard a subway train at Davisville Station.

The TTC is and remains one of the safest transit systems in the world. Each of its employees, especially all uniformed personnel and the Transit Enforcement Unit, take the safety and security of the travelling public very seriously. The TTC and Toronto Police Service work closely on matters related to the safety and security of the public who use the TTC; this case was no different.

The TTC has several security features built into the system, including CCTV cameras and passenger assistance alarms. While events like Wednesday’s are extremely rare on the TTC, the systems in place proved instrumental in identifying a suspect and, ultimately, leading to an arrest.

The TTC wishes to thank those customers who came to the aid of their fellow passenger until EMS arrived. The TTC hopes the customer who sustained such serious injuries makes a speedy and full recovery.
