Man sent to jail for robbery and assaulting two TTC employees

A man has been sentenced to 120 days in jail for an incident on TTC property.

On May 24, a man assaulted and attempted to rob a customer at Kennedy Station.  After a struggle, the victim managed to retrieve his backpack and the suspect fled on a subway train.  At Warden Station, two TTC Transit Enforcement Officers confronted the suspect. Both were attacked, suffering minor injuries.  The suspect was detained until the arrival of Toronto Police.

On July 23, James Lucas, 27, pleaded guilty to robbery and breach of probation, and was sentenced to 120 days in jail and placed on probation for two years.

On average, two TTC employees are assaulted every day, ranging from punching, slapping and spitting, to threats of physical harm or death. The TTC’s Court Advocates work with Crown Attorneys to secure the stiffest penalties possible for those convicted of assaulting TTC employees, and continue to seek limits on the use of public transit in Toronto for those convicted of these crimes.
