TTC pitches in during 20-minute makeover

The TTC will do its part to make Toronto a bit cleaner on Friday, April 15, during the Mayor’s annual 20-minute makeover. TTC Chair Karen Stintz and senior staff will be at Finch Station to pitch in and clean subway trains of discarded newspapers and other debris.

TTC employees will also roll up their sleeves and clean up at various TTC work locations.

Each night, TTC buses, streetcars and subway vehicles are cleaned.  Previously, this material was placed into a waste container and deposited as waste. Previous audits indicated that on average, 75% of the material from the vehicle clean operations was recyclable. As such, employees are now instructed to place recyclables in one bin and waste material in another bin.  This program has been very successful, diverting over 5000 metric tonnes since its launch.
