TTC to limit token sales effective immediately

The Toronto Transit Commission today announced it will limit the number of token sales to 10 per customer at all collector booths and one per customer at Token Vending Machines at its automatic entrances, only, where there is no collector on duty. The measure is to ensure there are enough tokens in the system for all TTC passengers who pay their fare with tokens.

On Wednesday, TTC staff recommended a fare increase for 2010 that will see adult fares rise by 25 cents, students/seniors by 15 cents, and children’s fares by 5 cents. If the proposed fare increase is approved, the TTC will realize an additional $62 million in revenue in 2010. Service levels for 2010 will be preserved and maintained at 2009 levels.

Commissioners will consider the staff recommended fare increase at its Nov. 17 meeting. If approved, the fare increase will take effect Jan. 3, 2010.
