Filming on TTC property
3. Small Productions and Non-Commercial Filming
The TTC is excited to welcome production companies of all sizes including grassroots initiatives. Depending on your production parameters, you can choose between filming under a property permit or opting for supervised filming.
The following rules/regulations apply when conducting filming/photography in the subway.
Filming under a Property Permit:
Ideal for smaller productions, allowing you to capture the essence of Toronto's subway system with minimal crew and equipment.
- Filming in subway station only, with less than 4 people (no train access)
- Limited equipment (camera, tripod)
- Access times: 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to closing (Mon-Fri); no restrictions on weekends
- Cost: $250.00 + HST for commercial shoots; free for students
- Proof of General Liability Insurance ($2.0 million) with TTC named as added insured
- Pick-up permit at TTC head office (1900 Yonge St., Davisville subway station) between 7 am to 5 pm
Supervised Filming:
Perfect for larger projects, providing access to more extensive resources and support from TTC staff.
- Filming in station and inside trains
- Crew size: 4-6 people (includes crew and cast)
- Limited equipment (camera, tripod, small handheld lights, props)
- Access times: 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (Mon-Fri) billed at $57.00 per hour; outside these hours (including weekends) billed at $96.00 per hour (4-hour minimum) + HST
- Proof of General Liability Insurance ($2.0 million) with TTC named as added insured
Submission Information: Please complete the TTC Filming Permit Application Form at least 3-weeks in advance of desired start date.
Non-Commercial Filming:
- Tourists, families, and individuals filming/photographing in public areas for non-commercial purposes do not need permission or a permit, as long as it does not interfere with transit operations or customers.
