Spadina Station Streetcar Platform Extension
Timeline: As early as Q1 2026 until Q1 2028
*Content / timeline accurate at time of printing
What are we doing and why?
Currently, the streetcar platform at Spadina Station can only accommodate one streetcar at a time, often leading to overcrowding. As part of the Line 2 Capacity Enhancement Program, Spadina Station will undergo modifications to extend the streetcar platform, allowing two streetcars to use the loop simultaneously. This upgrade will help alleviate overcrowding and meet future ridership demands on the 510/310 streetcar route.
Scope of work:
- Reroute duct bank underneath Paul Martel Park (10 Madison Avenue) to accommodate a new tunnel wall.
- Extension of existing streetcar platform and construction of the new tunnel wall.
- Removal of vacant Gateway retail stand and portion of a staff room.
- Restoration of street and concourse level areas impacted by construction.

Overview of planned modifications at the Spadina Station streetcar platform
What to expect during construction:
- Work will typically take place Monday to Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Some work on weekends and overnight may be required as permitted. Neighbours will be notified of weekend and overnight work in advance.
- Major construction activities include utility relocations, shoring, and excavation to streetcar platform level.
- Noise, dust, and vibration associated with construction are expected. Mitigation and monitoring measures will be in place as per City of Toronto bylaws.
- Temporary construction hoarding on a portion of Paul Martel Park, with the remainder of the park available for use as usual.
- Access to Spadina Station will be maintained throughout construction.
Traffic, pedestrian and cyclist restrictions
- Temporary alternative laneway access from Spadina Road for 320, 328 and 332 Bloor Street West.
- Possible temporary lane restrictions and impacts to street parking and the bikeshare station on Madison Avenue.
- Temporary sidewalk closures and detours.
Impacts to TTC Service
- Temporary removal of 510 Spadina streetcar service in Fall 2026, with 510 Spadina replacement buses running in mixed traffic from Spadina Station to King Street for one month.* Regular 510 service from Queen Street to Union Station will remain.
- Installation of protective construction hoarding by streetcar platform at concourse level for site safety and security.
- More details will be communicated before the transition to replacement bus service.
Thank you for your patience as we work to improve transit in Toronto.
