College Street and Bay Street
College Street and Bay Street Track Renewal and Overhead Upgrades
What we are doing and why
Construction began in early March and work at the intersection of College and Bay has been completed ahead of schedule. The intersection reopened to traffic on Friday, March 27.
While streetcar service remains diverted, TTC crews are continuing to carry out other work in nearby areas. Activities may include inspections, overhead upgrades, rail and concrete repairs, testing and commissioning, and other enabling work to support safe and reliable service.

TTC Service impacts (effective 5 a.m., March 28)
506/306 Carlton streetcars continue to divert both ways via McCaul Street, Dundas Street, and Parliament Street to regular routing.
506/306 Carlton replacement buses continue to supplement streetcar service, operating between Spadina Station and Broadview and Gerrard.
19 Bay buses have resumed regular routing, operating on Bay Street through the College Street intersection.
Regular 506/306 Carlton streetcar service and 19 Bay bus service are expected to resume in May and during FIFA World Cup 2026™.
Additional diversions will be required when work resumes on College/Carlton for Phases 2 and 3 FIFA World Cup 2026™. TTC will communicate these changes at a later date.
Overhead Upgrades
Throughout this project, TTC crews are actively upgrading and commissioning streetcar overhead infrastructure in the area while streetcars are diverted. Work may take place both during day and night shifts and will involve TTC overhead trucks with hydraulic equipment. While efforts will be made by the crew to keep noise to a minimum, beeping sounds when the trucks are backing up will be audible. Equipment lights may also be noticeable.
Thank you for your patience as we improve Toronto’s transit infrastructure.
