The TTC in the Community: Line 5 Eglinton Celebration

Following a successful phased launch that began in February, Line 5 Fest was an opportunity to thank our customers, support local vendors, and celebrate the diverse communities and businesses along the Eglinton Avenue corridor. 

Thousands of riders, residents, and transit enthusiasts along with several business owners, joined us for a day dedicated to community connection. The celebration also formally marked the completion of this major transit project. 

Here's a look at some of the moments that made Line 5 Fest a day to remember.

Celebrating Eglinton

Local businesses from across Eglinton Avenue participated in a curated vendor market. Each business operated a station-branded vendor booth, proudly representing its home station along the new line.

The marketplace highlighted the cultural diversity of the area, while live performances by local artists from the Canadian Reggae Music Association provided energy and entertainment throughout the afternoon.

Engaging with the Community

The event offered a variety of activities for riders of all ages:

• TTC Info Booth: Staff from Service Planning, Communications, Marketing and Community Relations met directly with transit advocates and customers to answer questions and receive feedback.
• TTC Pop-Up Shop: Attendees enjoyed a temporary retail experience featuring exclusive TTC merchandise.
• Commemorative Swag: Families and transit fans collected limited-edition items, including kids' activity books, stickers, magnets, buttons, and LRT vehicle cutouts.

Supporting Local Youth 

In line with the TTC’s commitment to community building, the event hosted a Backpack Drive to support local students ahead of the new school year. Visitors who donated a backpack or school supplies received a special commemorative Line 5 coin as a token of appreciation for helping children and youth in need.

Recognizing Our Staff 

The success of the Line 5 Eglinton Celebration was made possible by our dedicated employees and volunteers. Staff members were available across the event to welcome visitors, provide information, and ensure a seamless experience. The event also featured a dedicated Employee Corner, where team members could take a break and enjoy a complimentary coffee and treat.

Looking Forward

The official opening of Line 5 Eglinton represents a major step forward in making Toronto’s transit network more connected and accessible. The feedback we gathered from community members during our lead-up TalkTTC events and surveys has been vital in helping us shape a better customer experience.
