Station features

Line 5 has 15 stations, all equipped with modern transportation and safety features. The western part of the line runs through tunnels and on an elevated track like the subway.

At all stations, customers pass by the fare vending equipment on their way to the fare gates. Customers can purchase PRESTO tickets, reload PRESTO cards and use debit, credit or cash.

Exterior

All stations are marked with the TTC logo. Every station has at least one accessible entrance.

Bike Parking

Every station has outdoor bike parking spaces.

Indoor bike parking is also available at Mount Dennis, Cedarvale, Science Centre and Kennedy stations.  Indoor bike storage is the exclusive responsibility of the City of Toronto, who will handle customer questions and complaints.

Platforms

Each station platform is equipped with the Guideway Intrusion Detection System (GIDS) that helps prevent unauthorized access to track level. Read more about GIDS in the Safety section below.

Like our subway lines, next train information is displayed and emergency alarm stations are located at each end of the platform.

Level boarding is available at all stations and tactile tile wayfinding improves accessibility.

Safety

Customer protection

The Guideway Intrusion Detection System helps protect customers from contact with trains. Called GIDS, the system uses light curtains along station platforms and tunnel entrances to detect unauthorized entry to the track area, providing an audible warning to step back from the track and applying the brakes of approaching trains, when necessary.

Designated Waiting Area

The Designated Waiting Area (DWA) is a safe place to wait at any station. Located mid-platform, the DWA is monitored by closed circuit television and has a seating area with a bench, grab bar, payphone and Passenger Assistance Intercom. The payphone has a dedicated button for toll-free access to Crisis Link.

Some stations have DWAs in the bus terminal waiting area.

Passenger Assistance Intercom

Passenger Assistance Intercoms (PAIs) are located at all stations and stops for customers to request assistance or emergency response, using the green information button or red emergency button.

PAIs have accessibility features, including raised braille labels for customers with a visual disability and a hearing induction loop for customers with a hearing disability.

PAIs in the unpaid area of each station allow text entry. PAIs in Emergency Rescue Zones only have a red emergency button.

Emergency Alarm Stations

Emergency Alarm Stations (EAS) are located at each end of the station platform and are identified by a blue light. Each EAS has an emergency telephone, called ETEL, and a power cut button.

Emergency Rescue Zone

The Emergency Rescue Zone at each end of the platform is a place where passengers who cannot safely self-evacuate can wait for Emergency Services responders to assist them during an emergency, and are equipped with a Passenger Assistance Intercom with an emergency button.
