What we are doing and why

As part of the TTC’s commitment to safety and modernization, Museum Station (Line 1) will be getting new elevators to improve customer safety, accessibility and convenience by Q3 2026 (subject to weather, unforeseen events).

Construction is phased to ensure that Museum Station remains open to customers throughout the duration of the work.

In addition to the ongoing elevator installations, construction is underway at the concourse level of the station, along with associated rehabilitation work that requires access from street level along Queen’s Park. The concourse level of the station is located underneath the street.

The new secondary station exit / entrance at the south end of the station, located at Queen’s Park Circle, opened in 2024. This had to be completed in advance of most of the construction at the main north entrances and the concourse level.

The concourse-level rebuild adds two new elevators and other accessibility features. This work requires expanding the concourse and adding a new staircase and escalator. To create space and maintain access, the TTC removed the existing staircase and escalator. The north access to the station was closed to safely build the expanded concourse and complete full‑depth excavation next to the original station structure. The north access reopened in December 2025.

The final component involves repairing and waterproofing the station roof, with much of this work accessed from street level on Queens Park.

UPDATES:

  • As of May 15, 2026, construction hoarding has been reduced and all lanes of traffic on Queen’s Park (two vehicle lanes and one bike lane in each direction) north of Queen’s Park Crescent are now open, with the exception of the section between the northeast and southeast staircases (including the southeast staircase), which will remain fenced off.
    • The sidewalk on the east side is open.
    • The hoarding on the west side of Queens Park and the pedestrian detour on the west side will remain (no impact to road traffic) and will be removed by the end of Q3.
  • Main Entrance (North Side Entrance) re-opened December 22, 2025.

Noise, Vibration and Work hours

Noise, dust and vibration associated with construction can be expected with this work. Efforts will be made to keep levels to a minimum.

Majority of the work will take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday to Friday, and on Saturday after 9 a.m., with work after hours and on Sunday after 9 a.m.  if required. As permitted, some overnight work will be required during the course of this project for safety and efficiency.

Overnight work is scheduled, as part of the plans to make Museum Station accessible. Noise associated with construction can be expected with this work, however crews will monitor levels and make efforts to keep them to a minimum.

What to expect

Construction trucks, equipment and site staff will be present in the general area.

Transit Service

Subway service at the station will be maintained throughout construction.

Market conditions have changed since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic concerning the cost of work and the availability of materials which impacted work to make the station accessible. Project schedules have been reviewed and elevators are scheduled to be in service in Q3 2026.
