TTC Engineering Department, Engineering, Construction and Expansion Group
Build, Improve and Expand the System
TTC’s Engineering Department has around 200 staff, with over 10 licensed Architects, and over 80 licensed engineers in alignment, civil, electrical, geotechnical, geoenvironmental, mechanical, structural, communications, commissioning and signals disciplines. Our main functions include:
- Develop and maintain TTC Design Standards
- Design transit facilities and systems
- Review of Capital design by consultants
- Review of Third-party developments
- Support to MX Subway/LRT expansions
- Engineering support to other TTC Departments
- Construction support
- CADD and Application support
- Specialist engineering support to consultants
- Inclusive, Accessible and Sustainable Designs
- Systems Integration
Engineering Department is currently leading design of over 50 capital projects. Some notable ongoing design projects by the Engineering Department include Donlands Station Second Exit and Easier Access, Highway 407 New Substation, St. Clair West Fire Ventilation Upgrades, Markdale Fire Ventilation Upgrades, Lytton Fire Ventilation Upgrades, Lansdowne Streetcar Substation Upgrades, Fleet Loop Track Replacement, North York Centre Station Fire Alarm Modification, Line 3 Busway, Greenwood Yard Facility Carhouse Modifications, and Greenwood Overhaul Shop High Level Platform.
Engineering Department sets the Standards and rigorously reviews consultant designs for Capital projects, Subway and Light Rail Expansion projects by Metrolinx, and Third-party developments.
The Engineering Department is ensuring seamless systems integration of Line 5 and Line 6 with the existing TTC Network.
