Safety

Customer protection

At Finch West Station, the Guideway Intrusion Detection System  helps protect customers from contact with trains. Called GIDS, the system uses light curtains along the station platform and tunnel entrances to detect unauthorized entry to the track area, providing an audible warning to step back from the track and applying the brakes of approaching trains, when necessary.

Designated Waiting Area

The Designated Waiting Area (DWA) at Finch West Station, located mid-platform, is  monitored by closed circuit television and has a seating area with a bench, grab bar, payphone and Passenger Assistance Intercom. The payphone has a dedicated button for toll-free access to Crisis Link.

Passenger Assistance Intercom

Passenger Assistance Intercoms (PAIs) are located at all stops for customers to request assistance or emergency response, using the green information button or red emergency button.

PAIs have accessibility features, including raised braille labels for customers with a visual disability and a hearing induction loop for customers with a hearing disability.
