Temporary changes to TTC’s 501 Queen streetcar next week

Customers on the TTC’s 501 Queen route will see some service changes next week as a result of early completion of track work at McCaul St., emergency track maintenance between Broadview Ave. and River St., and a road closure for The Bay’s Christmas window display unveiling.

TTC crews will complete track work at Queen and McCaul Sts. a week early, allowing streetcars to resume service through the area this Monday, Oct. 30 at 5 a.m.

From Oct. 30 to Nov. 6, however, crews will carry out urgent preventative track repairs on Queen St. between Broadview Ave. and River St., restricting traffic to curb lanes on Queen St. in both directions. During this work, the 501 Queen streetcar will divert via Broadview Ave., Dundas St., and Parliament St. In addition to streetcars, a bus shuttle, the 501B, will operate between Pape Ave. and Victoria St. This work will also result in the 504 King streetcar diverting between King St. and Broadview Ave. via Dundas and Parliament Sts. both ways.

Finally, on Thursday, Nov. 2, from 3-10 p.m., Queen St. will be closed between Yonge and Bay Sts. to accommodate The Bay’s annual Christmas window unveiling. Streetcars will divert around the street closure in both directions – eastbound via Spadina Ave., King St. and Church St., and westbound via Church, King St. and York Sts. A bus replacement service, the 501J, will operate between Pape Ave. and Bathurst St. on a shorter diversion – eastbound via University Ave., Adelaide and Yonge Sts. and westbound via Yonge, Richmond and York Sts.
