TTC signal work on Line 1 this weekend

This weekend, Oct. 29-30, TTC crews will continue work on the new Automatic Train Control (ATC) signal system, requiring Line 1 Yonge-University to close between St George and Lawrence West stations.

Shuttle buses will run frequently throughout the closure, stopping only at subway stations along the route. Shuttle buses will not enter Eglinton West Station, but will stop instead at the intersection of Bathurst St. and Eglinton Ave. W. To provide a faster trip, street parking will be restricted on portions of Bloor St., Bathurst St. and Spadina Rd.

Glencairn Station will be closed. All other stations will be open for sales of fares

When installation is complete in 2019, ATC will result in a more modern and reliable signal system that will allow for a 25 per cent increase in the number of trains operating on Line 1. While the TTC does much of its subway maintenance work at the conclusion of service each night, it will continue to require weekend closures to complete ATC and state-of-good-repair work, like replacing track and maintaining switches. One weekend of work during a closure is equivalent to about five weeks of nightly work.

Wheel-Trans buses will operate between Lawrence West and St George stations for customers requiring an accessible connection. Customers can speak with TTC staff at these stations to request the service.

Regular subway service resumes Monday at 6 a.m. The next scheduled subway closures are:
- Line 2 Bloor Danforth: Pape to St George - Nov. 5-6
- Line 1: St George to Lawrence West - Nov. 12-13
- Line 3 Scarborough: Entire line - Nov. 19 & 26
