TTC Wins Award for Hiring Diversity

The Toronto Transit Commission today was recognized as one of the Best Employers for New Canadians for 2008. The award names 20 finalists who represent employers from across Canada that lead their peers in creating workplaces that welcome new Canadians and allow them to make the most of their skills, education and talents.

"The TTC has excellent initiatives for encouraging the employment of people from the multicultural community that is Toronto," said TTC Chair Adam Giambrone. "It is important and appropriate that an organization like the TTC take a leadership role in both Toronto and Canada, in hiring diversity."

Ramsis Youssef came to Canada from Egypt in 2003, and through the Skills for Change program, worked in a volunteer position with the TTC's Track & Structure Department. He was hired 6 months later.

"The TTC helped me achieve my dreams both on the professional as well as the personal level," said Youssef. "Two thumbs up for the TTC."
