Improving safety and speed of streetcar service

Project overview

Some streetcar stops will be removed or modified to improve customer safety and service quality in terms of travel time.

TTC will be improving the safety and speed of streetcar service by adjusting streetcar stops to ensure they are located at signalized intersections or crosswalks. This initiative will speed service by removing some stops that are unreasonably close together. The recommendations for these improvements were made after consultation with the Advisory Committee on Accessible Transit (ACAT), TTC’s Customer Liaison Panel, and City Councillors, and were approved by the TTC Board at the May 28, 2014 meeting. Please see the staff report for more details.

In support of the streetcar stop relocations, TTC embarked on a program to identify streetcar stops that require a curb cut to support customers with accessibility concerns and to construct curb cuts where needed. By the end of Fall 2018, TTC expects that all scheduled curb cuts will be finished in time for the anticipated deployment of LFLRVs.
