Infrastructure Upgrades

Spadina Avenue - infrastructure upgrades

What we are doing and why

Starting as early as June 23, 2024, the TTC will be conducting overhead upgrades along sections of the Spadina Avenue streetcar right-of-way between Queens Quay West and Spadina Station. The TTC will also use this time to conduct critical track renewal at Spadina Station as well as enabling works to allow for a future platform extension to increase station capacity.

As a result, 510/310 Spadina streetcars will be replaced with a bus service starting June 23.

Work activities and locations

All work will be conducted along the streetcar right-of-way from June 23 through December:

  • Overhead upgrades between King Street and Queens Quay, and from College Street to Spadina Station.
  • Track renewal work at Spadina Station and enabling works for platform extension.

What to expect

TTC overhead trucks with hydraulic equipment will be used to carry out the overhead upgrades. While efforts will be made by the crew to keep noise to a minimum, beeping sounds when the trucks are backing up will be audible. Equipment lights may also be noticeable.

Additional local rail repairs may be scheduled along the Spadina right-of-way, and will be communicated.

Work hours

To complete overhead work safely and efficiently, TTC overhead crews may work throughout the week during the day and at night.

Motorist, cyclist, and pedestrian impacts

  • All work will take place within the streetcar right-of-way on Spadina Avenue and on TTC property.
  • Traffic on Spadina Avenue is not expected to be impacted.
  • Sidewalks and bike lanes are not expected to be impacted.

TTC 510/310 Spadina bus service – starting June 23, 2024

  • 510 Spadina streetcar service will be replaced by buses between Spadina Station and Queens Quay. Buses will operate on Spadina Avenue in mixed traffic and serve curbside transit stops.
  • 310 Spadina streetcar service will be replaced by buses between Spadina Station and Union Station. Buses will operate in mixed traffic and serve curbside transit stops.
  • At Spadina Station, 510/310 Spadina buses will serve customers from the bus loop (street level).
  • 509 Harbourfront streetcar service will be increased to provide frequent travel to and from Union Station.

Thank you for your patience as we work to improve transit infrastructure in Toronto.
