Wellington Street West from York to Yonge streets - TTC pole replacement

February 27 to late March 2023
Effective February 27, 2023

What we are doing and why

Starting Monday, February 27, The TTC and Toronto Hydro will begin replacing 34 existing poles on the north and south sides of Wellington Street West (York Street to Yonge Street).

With the new poles in place, the TTC can consider reintroducing streetcar service on the 502 Kingston (westbound) route, which is currently being serviced by replacement buses.

Work activities, hours and timeline

  • Crews will excavate small sections of the sidewalk to remove old poles and install new ones with new LED street lights. Only 2 poles will replaced at a time in order to maintain adequate street lighting.
  • Crews will work Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., outside rush hours.
  • Work will start on the south side of Wellington Street West, west of Yonge Street, and will progress towards York Street. Crews will then move to the north side of Wellington Street West and work westward once again from Yonge Street to York Street.

Travel Impacts

  • Road users should expect the following when travelling through the area during construction:
  • Closed curb lanes where crews are working.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained on sidewalks and intersections.
  • Access to driveways on Wellington Street West and deliveries will not be affected.
  • The 503 Kingston bus route will continue normal operation.

Thank you for your patience as we work to improve transit infrastructure in Toronto.
