King Station - Easier Access Project Update

Utility Investigation on Melinda Street - starts as early as May 8, 2023 for three days*
Effective May 8, 2023

What we are doing and why:

The TTC’s Easier Access Program is making subway stations accessible. TTC is currently working to build elevators that will make King Station accessible. Construction crews on behalf of TTC started construction work at street-level on Elevators E1 and E2 on Melinda Street and Elevator E3 Yonge and Colborne Streets in January 2023.

As part of this construction, crews will be cutting asphalt on the street-level at Melinda Street (Elevator E2) as early as Monday, May 8, 2023* for approximately three days. This will be followed with the daylighting of utilities using a hydrovac truck in order to investigate the sub-surface conditions at Elevator E2 location.

What to expect during utility investigation work:

  • Melinda St. will be temporarily closed during this time and traffic control personnel/paid duty office will be present from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Local access will be maintained.
  • Noise associated with construction can be expected with this work. Efforts will be made to keep levels to a minimum.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
  • There will be no interruptions to transit service as part of this investigative work.
  • Construction trucks, equipment and workers will be present in the general area.
