Gerrard Street East between Golfview Avenue and Main Street

Essential rail and concrete repairs
Effective May 11, 2023 to May 16, 2023

What we are doing and why

Starting on Thursday, May 11, 2023, TTC track staff will be conducting rail and concrete repairs on Gerrard Street East between Golfview Avenue and Main Street. Crews will start at Golfview Avenue and work east towards Main Street.

This work is required to return the area to a state of good repair while streetcars are temporarily not operating in the area.

Work activities, hours, and timeline

  • Work activities will include concrete saw-cutting, concrete breaking/removal, rail replacement, and placement of new concrete.
  • Rail work of this nature is required around the clock to ensure the quality installation of new rail and concrete. Concrete breaking/removal work will typically end at 11 p.m.
  • Expected overnight activities include rail welding and placing new concrete.
  • Concrete is poured into the track area and set to cure. The new concrete requires curing time before the work zone is removed for the resumption of full road use.

Motorist impact

  • TTC crews will work in the centre lanes. Traffic on Gerrard Street East will be reduced to one lane in each direction through the local work zone for the duration of the work.
  • The location of work zones may inhibit left turns.
  • Gerrard Street East and Golfview Avenue intersection: Northbound and southbound travel will be closed.
  • Gerrard Street East and Beachview Crescent intersection: Northbound and southbound travel will be closed.
  • Gerrard Street East and Enderby Road intersection: Northbound and southbound travel will be closed.
  • The Gerrard Street East and Golfview Avenue intersection, Gerrard Street East and Beachview Crescent intersection, and Gerrard Street East and Enderby Road intersection travel closures will not be in effect at the same time.
  • Paid duty officers or flag persons will be on-site to assist.
  • Traffic restrictions and the work zone will be cleared once the newly placed concrete has cured adequately for road traffic.

TTC service – 506 Carlton Route. 5 a.m. May 11, 2023, to 5 a.m. May 15, 2023

  • 506 Carlton replacement bus will continue to operate through the area.

Thank you for your patience as we work to improve transit infrastructure in Toronto.
