Doors Open Toronto 2023

As part of Doors Open Toronto 2023, we are giving the public a behind-the-scenes peek at the McCowan Carhouse and Danforth Garage. Both facilities will be open to visitors from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, rain or shine.

Guests are welcome to enjoy self-guided tours, take photos and check out the TTC vehicles and equipment on display. Both locations will offer a charity barbecue supporting the United Way and TTC staff and volunteers will be on-site to answer questions.

At the McCowan Carhouse, TTC fans will get one of the final chances to board a Scarborough Rapid Transit car before Line 3 Scarborough is decommissioned later this year.

At the Danforth Garage, guests will get a sense of the evolution of public transit in Toronto over the last century by checking out a vintage GM New Look bus alongside one of our new e-buses.

Take Line 2 to Kennedy Station, transfer to Line 3 and continue to McCowan Station. Exit McCowan Station on Bushby Drive towards Grangeway Avenue. Follow Grangeway Avenue to Ellesmere Road. Turn left onto Ellesmere Road and left again. McCowan Carhouse is on the right.

Parking is not available for the public at this location.

Danforth Garage 1627 Danforth Avenue M4C 1H7

Take Line 2 to Coxwell Station and exit on Strathmore Boulevard toward Coxwell Avenue. Walk south on Coxwell Avenue to Danforth Avenue. Turn left onto Danforth. Danforth Garage is on the right.

Only street parking is available for the public at this location.

To get from McCowan Carhouse to Danforth Garage, take Line 3 from McCowan Station to Kennedy Station and transfer to Line 2. Continue on Line 2 to Coxwell Station and exit on Strathmore Boulevard toward Coxwell Avenue. Walk south on Coxwell Avenue to Danforth Avenue. Turn left onto Danforth. Danforth Garage is on the right.

Accessibility note: At McCowan Carhouse everything is accessible at street level but a rail presents a tripping hazard. There is an accessible entrance. There is no accessible parking, accessibility between levels or accessible washrooms.

At the Danforth Garage there is only one entrance open to the public and it is accessible. The main garage door is accessible and there is no access or accessibility between levels. There is street parking only and it is accessible. There are accessible portable washrooms.
